Babyproofing Pittsburgh (BPP) been in business since 2000, is a member of and trained under two founding members of the International Association for Child Safety (www.iafcs.org), and offers individualized home safety consultations and professional installation. The company also is an authorized distributor and installer for Protect-A-Child removable mesh pool fence (www.protectachild.com).
Kim Finkbeiner, the founder, owner and President of Babyproofing Pittsburgh, was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and is a retired (as of 2020) home health Physical Therapist. She started the business when her second child was born in order to have a more flexible schedule while raising her family and to scratch her entrepreneurial itch outside of her chosen profession. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Virginia Tech and a Master of Physical Therapy degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Kim feels very thankful to be able to use both of her degrees to perform work that is fulfilling and helps both patients and families in her hometown. Her physical therapy training in children’s motor development and home safety, combined with her life experience as a mother raising two children since 1990, strengthens her qualifications for the specialized, unique field of professional childproofing.
Along with training and experience, professionally childproofing a home requires a significant amount of time and physical effort, but Kim enjoys the work and the peace of mind that her expertise and assistance gives her clients.
Kim has trained two other professional childproofers and participated on the IAFCS member panel tasked with drafting portions of their Best Practices (professional work standards for evaluating and installing various categories of safety products). These standards are the basis for the industry’s only and recently created professional certification program.
She is married to husband Robert, who also trained with her and sometimes assists with larger childproofing jobs and all pool fence installations. They have two grown children.
