Full consultations take an average of 50-100 minutes and include an emailed room-by-room detailed estimate (sent within 72 hours of consult) outlining recommended and available product options, material and installation price breakdowns. A total of at least two (2) home visits for the childproofing process if this standard option is chosen (larger jobs may take more than one day). Please note: A TRIP FEE will be added for any appointments that fall outside of Babyproofing Pittsburgh’s 30 mile territory (traveling from Washington, PA) and will be assessed individually based on mileage. EMAIL CONSULT ($25.00) may be an option for clients who want childproofing work that is limited to one or two products or areas of the home, or as a follow-up consult. Email consults will not address all areas of home and may leave unaddressed other safety hazards in the home. A total of at least one (1) home installation visit for childproofing process. Once estimate and product photos are sent via email or text, the consult fee will be due within one day of receipt. Payment for email consults can be made conveniently via Zelle (preferred), Venmo, PayPal or credit card link from your phone or laptop. Before contacting us for an estimate, please visit www.protectachild.com to review available options for colors, gate options etc. Black mesh/posts/border is the most transparent looking. A manual gate is the option most customers choose and involves drilling two extra layback holes for a gate opening of 3 to 6 feet with the same latch as is used to connect all other fence sections. Self-latching gate adds cost (around $550) and is a 3’ wide opening which has a magnetic self-closing latch and a key option to lock gate. Self-latching gates must have 3’ of straight fence line on either side (no angles) of gate for proper tension.
It is recommended that if possible, pool fences go around the entire perimeter of the pool, at least 2 feet out from edge of pool (or more) and not enclosing furniture, although this is up to a customer’s preference. This helps to ensure that when a child is inside a closed fence, it is for water recreation only with direct one-on-one supervision and no distractions – and that when a child is outside a closed fence, all access to water hazard is prevented and allows for socializing, eating, sunbathing and occasional distractions to supervision without the drowning hazard being a factor. This is the best way to safeguard a pool and the first line of defense against drowning recommended by safety experts. If you are putting furniture inside the fence line with the pool, be aware that drowning is a silent killer and can happen quickly when any supervising adult(s) sitting around pool may be distracted for seconds or minutes, so extra caution is vitally important when little ones are inside fence and in/around the water without direct one-on-one supervision.
Following the consult and estimate, clients decide what, if anything, they want to purchase and/or have installed. Lead times vary, but generally allow up to 5 weeks lead time for installation at time of product order.
A 50% materials-only deposit is sometimes required for larger jobs, and is due at least a week prior to the scheduled installation date. Refer to estimate for details.
Follow-up visits for work beyond the initial consult and installation: Additional fees will apply for all follow-up consults and install visits. If under minimum of $250 total, a $75 follow-up visit fee will apply in addition to the material and labor for the additional work. If outside of BPP’s 30 mile territory, an added trip fee will also be applied. For additional on-site consults after the initial consult and install, the standard consult fee ($100) will apply; if outside BPP’s 30 mile territory, a trip fee will also apply and is assessed on an individual basis by mileage. E-mail consults ($25) can often be an appropriate option for clients desiring future additional professional childproofing work beyond the initial consult and installation – depending on the reason behind the additional work (i.e. anchoring new furniture, more gates desired, client has moved, family is growing). Moving to a new home typically always requires a new on-site consult.
